Notes: s7 blueprint remix, round 3
Concept in one line: Blackberry Farm's photo-collage layout (overlapping photos that break the grid, hairline frames, big light capitals, splits that bleed off the page) rebuilt for a neighborhood family practice, with real faces, real smiles and real Vienna places.
Main decisions
- Blueprint: Blackberry Farm (blackberryfarm.com), a family-run, place-rooted inn whose whole layout is photography. Secondary: Troutbeck's thin utility bar (address, hours, phone) above the header. The research, the teardown and the mapping are in
refs/blueprint.md; the screenshots are inrefs/. - Type: Marcellus for display. It's a flared, Trajan-like capital that echoes the logo's own wordmark, set in uppercase and close like Blackberry's headings, and it isn't a Garamond. DM Sans for text and the tracked-caps labels.
- Color: a white page. The logo's "DENTAL" brown-black (#2a2420 / #221d1a) for the ink, the dark band and the footer. The logo blue (#2c6aab) as the only accent: the Book buttons, the few labels, the frames. A pale blue mist behind insurance. No cream, navy or gold; the photos carry the warmth.
- Imagery: autumn library photos for mood. The real team portraits and before/after cases for every claim. Real Wikimedia Commons photos of Vienna for place: the W&OD depot behind the hours, the Freeman House and Meadowlark Gardens behind the reviews.
- Signature: the hero collage. Dr. Paino, a real chipped-tooth repair (after, with a before inset) and a child's first visit break over the fading edge of a full-bleed autumn-trail hero, under "Vienna's family dentist on MAPLE AVENUE".
- Layout, top to bottom: 1. utility bar and transparent header (Book is always the one solid blue button); 2. hero; 3. collage and intro; 4. sedation, with photos breaking over a hairline frame; 5. services, as a photo bleeding off the left beside a two-column list; 6. hours, as a dark band over the depot; 7. two featured services as cards, each a photo above a dark text panel; 8. smile cases, with overlapping before/after bleeding right; 9. team: three doctors large and all nine staff named; 10. insurance in a frame on mist; 11. reviews, as two photo tiles (narrow and wide); 12. booking, as a dark band with a 4-field request form; 13. dark footer with the NAP, hours, services, the three article titles and the photo credits.
On the phone, a sticky Call and Book bar.
Photos used
Business (real): the logo-white; Dr. Paino (twice: a head-and-shoulders crop in the collage, the full portrait in the team); Drs. Grubic and Traboulsi; Trish, Ann, Jan, Diane, Lynne, Nancy, Jordan, Kathia, Jenefer; the cases chipped-before/after, bridge-before/after, and veneers-face-after (cropped nose to chin).

No generated or stock person is named or captioned as staff or a patient. The sedation woman and the brushing father and daughter are mood images with no captions.
Placeholders
[CONFIRM: typical checkup and cleaning fee]in the insurance box; no prices are published.- The booking form posts nowhere (it needs a back end, or a link to the practice's request form).
- All navigation, service and article links go to
#.
With better assets or more time
- Real photos of the office, the building on Maple Ave and the team at work. These would replace the library mood shots in the sedation and services sections, and the hero would be the practice itself.
- A Vienna photographer's autumn set (Church Street, the W&OD in Vienna, the Town Green) in place of the Commons photos, which are mostly summer and harder in color than the library.
- More real cases, so the smile gallery can show 3-4 pairs, and a short bio line for each staff member.
The guide, honestly
- Helped: working from one real site gave me a system, not a list of rules: the overlap, the frame and the bleeding splits. That is what keeps the page from looking like the last two rounds. "Prefer local businesses over tech brands" pointed me to inns, and an inn's hospitality layout fits a gentle family dentist well. Measuring the blueprint and writing the mapping table made the build fast.
- Got in the way or left me guessing:
- Half the candidate sites wouldn't screenshot (bot walls, cookie walls, 100vh video heroes that stretch to thousands of px in a full-page shot). The guide warns about this, but 8-12 candidates is a lot of fetching for 3-4 usable references.
- The blueprint's own habits are template tells by the review's standard: Blackberry puts a small caps label above every heading. Rebuilding faithfully gave me exactly what the reviewer then called the "label above every heading" tell. The guide should say which of a blueprint's moves to drop.
- "Same proportions, same rhythm" fights with phone-first. The collage and the overlaps needed their own phone design; the guide is silent on that, beyond "check the blueprint's phone screenshot".
- homepage.md refers to SKILL.md and
docs/site-plan.md, which don't exist here. writing.md's "Copy check" assumes service pages. - The guide's own review (side by side, twice) and REVIEW.md's loop overlap. The side-by-side was useful for the build's first broken things (a nav that wrapped, an inset covering a face); the loop found everything else.
- The review loop: it helped a lot. The most valuable points:
- The veneers card hid the actual result under text. The fix was a new crop and moving the text off the photo.
- The label above every heading.
- Dr. Paino's photo and story were repeated three times.
- The collage's dead column.
- Phone spacing and phone order: the teeth close-ups appeared before any heading said what they were.
Round 1 caught the most; by round 2 the points were polish. Scores went from 7 overall (rounds 1 and 2) to 8 in round 3, with a ship verdict once a caption collision was fixed (done). The loop also caught a trade-off the guide doesn't: a faithfully copied blueprint move (Blackberry's overlay cards) can hide the very proof it's meant to show.
