Dental anxiety and sedation

Nervous about the dentist? Dr. Paino became one because his family was.

“As a child, I had an old school dentist who was pretty rough around the edges, and my family shared countless horror stories. I always thought I could change their perception of what a dentist is and what a dental appointment should be like.”

Dr. David Paino, DDS

What that means at your visit

  • Time. We will never rush you through an appointment.
  • Sedation, at the level you need. Laughing gas, an oral sedative, or IV sedation. For general anesthesia, board-certified anesthesiologists come to our office.
  • A Zoom consult first, so you can talk it through before you sit in the chair.
  • Comforts in the room: a TV, blankets, pillows and noise-canceling headphones.

Want to talk it through first? Call (703) 281-7104.

Sedation dentistry, explained

“As someone who has some amount of dental anxiety, Dr. Paino has been very good at keeping me relaxed and feeling at ease… I’ve always been seen at my appointment time.”

Before and after: smiles finished in this office

Real patients of the practice, photographed here. We show you the result before treatment starts, with a mold, a mock-up or a preview of the shade and shape.

Before: uneven front teeth with worn, chipped edges
Before
After: even, rebuilt front teeth after Invisalign, whitening and composite veneers
After

“What started as a quick fix to a filling turned into a brighter, straighter, and healthier smile. I never planned on getting Invisalign, but I am more than happy with the results.”

Jonathan V., Invisalign patient

An uneven bite and worn front edges

Invisalign for several months to even the bite, then whitening, then composite veneers to rebuild the edges.

Composite veneers in one visit: no drilling, no shots

Dr. Paino is trained in the Marshall Hanson method. Little or no tooth is removed, and you see the shade and shape before we start.

Questions about your plan? Ask Lynne. She has looked after insurance here since 2013.

We aren’t in-network with any insurer, on purpose. It lets us choose the materials and the labs, and take the time each visit needs.

“He spent an incredible amount of time walking us through the process, explaining each option, and sharing his professional recommendations. He even created a mold so we could see exactly what the final result would look like. It was clear from the beginning that he approaches his work as both a science and an art.”

Kadie B., on her daughter’s missing front tooth
